Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Chandler Diekvoss Hits Game-Winning Three-Pointer In 69-68 Win Over Emporia State

The Lindenwood men's basketball team capped an 11-point comeback on Monday night in Hyland Arena with a game-winning three-pointer by Chandler Diekvoss with 13 seconds remaining. That shot gave the Lions a 69-68 conference victory over Emporia State.

Lindenwood trailed by seven at halftime, and was down by as much as 11 in the second half when it fell behind 53-42 with 13:19 remaining. Diekvoss sparked a comeback a few minutes later as he scored the first four points on an 11-2 run that tied the game at 58.

After the Lions tied it up three times, they finally took the lead at 64-63 on a pair of free throws by Brad Newman. Emporia State answered with five straight points to go up by four with 33 seconds remaining. Adam Pohlman got two points back on a layup, and TJ Crockett made one of the biggest plays of his collegiate career with a steal on the in-bounds pass. After the steal, Pohlman found Diekvoss in the left corner, and Diekvoss buried his shot to put the Lions up one.

Emporia State came down and missed a shot with a few seconds remaining, but got the ball back after it went out of bounds off a Lion. The Hornets had less than two seconds to shoot, and a long three-point try was off the mark.

Lindenwood shot 52.9 percent from the field, and had 40 points in the paint. Emporia State had eight more rebounds in the game, but it shot just 43.1 percent on the night. The Lions turned the ball over 12 times, more than their season average, but four less than what Emporia State was forcing on the season. Lindenwood had a 19-12 advantage as well in points off turnovers.

Diekvoss finished with a team-high 18 points, and also led the Lions with seven rebounds. Brad Newman had 14 points, and Max Meylor finished with 11. Pohlman had nine points, nine assists, and four steals. Drew Moore led the bench scoring with eight points, on four-of-five shooting, and he also pulled down five rebounds.

Lindenwood improves to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in MIAA play. The Lions have a quick turnaround as they play against on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. against Robert Morris-Springfield.
