Baseball Picks up Two Wins on Saturday

The Lindenwood baseball team picked up two wins over Mississippi College on Saturday in Clinton, Miss. by scores of 12-4 and 8-1 respectively.

Drew Quinones led the team with five hits including a triple while driving in five runs on the day.  Wes Degener, Bobby Lang, and Rayce Singbush each tallied three hits and a double while Degener scored six times on Saturday.  Kyle Teter hammered the only home run of the season thus far as he ended the day with three RBI and two runs scored.  Andrew Eilers tallied the win in the first game after tossing six innings with nine strikeouts and Blake Beckmann registered his first win as a Lion in a seven-inning five-strikeout performance.

The Lions jumped on the board in the first inning after a sacrifice bunt by Quinones allowed Degener to cross the plate.  Lindenwood added to the lead in the top of the third after Lang drove in Quinones and Singbush singled to leftfield to bring in Teter.  The Lions held a 3-0 lead after the top of the third, but Mississippi College picked up three runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 3-3.  Lindenwood responded well in the following frame as Quinones tallied a two-RBI single and Andersen scored on a wild pitch to put the Lions back up by three runs.

The Choctaws cut in the lead with one run in the bottom of the fifth, but again, the Lions answered.  Degener scored on a hard-hit triple by Quinones and Sosnowski singled to right field to drive in Quinones.  Bobby Lang broke the game open with a two-RBI double in the top of the eight and Singbush hit a double of his own to bring in Lang and give the Lions a commanding 11-4 lead.  Lindenwood added a run in the top of the ninth and closed out the game with a 12-4 victory.

Lindenwood began the second game with a great first inning after Degener reached base on a single up the middle and Bret Andersen drew a walk.  In his first at-bat of the day, Teter pounded a two-out homerun over the centerfield wall for an early 3-0 Lindenwood lead.  Sam Baxter drove in two more runs in the top of the third inning with a two-out single that brought in Andersen and Quinones.  Degener picked up his second stolen base of the game and later scored in the fourth inning to put the Lions up 6-0.  Nick Paulda ended the night with a two-RBI single to right field to seal the 8-1 victory in game two.

Lindenwood improves to 3-3 on the season while Mississippi College falls to 1-5 on the year.  The Lions will close out the series with the Choctaws on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game in Clinton, Miss.
