Baseball Sweeps Mississippi College with 15-3 Win on Sunday

The Lindenwood baseball team swept Mississippi College after a 15-3 win on Sunday afternoon in Clinton, Miss.

The Lions scored 15 runs on 20 hits as 12 players registered at least one hit in the game.  Wes Degener led the squad with three hits and three runs scored while Drew Quinones drove in a team-high four RBI on three hits with one run scored.  Rayce Singbush also registered three hits with one RBI and scored twice.  Kyle Hentis picked up his first win of the season with a five-inning four-strikeout performance.  Marshall Shill tossed three innings out of the bullpen with four strikeouts and Wade Brewer registered one strikeout in one inning pitched.

Degener opened the game with a double down the left field line and later scored on a Quinones single to put Lindenwood up 1-0.  The Lions poured on runs in the second frame, starting with an RBI-single by Sam Baxter to drive in Singbush.  Bret Andersen hit a sacrifice fly to score Baxter and Quinones hit a two-run home run to put Lindenwood ahead 5-0 after the top of the second inning.  The Choctaws scored two runs in the bottom of the second to cut into the early lead.  Quinones drove in Degener on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth to extend the Lions lead to 6-2.

Lindenwood broke the game open in the top of the fifth when Kyle Teter scored on a wild pitch and Singbush drove in Bobby Lang on a single to centerfield.  Singbush scored on a fielder's choice and Baxter scored on a double steal with the help of a stolen base by Degener to give Lindenwood a 10-2 buffer.  The Lions added insult to injury in the top of the eight as Andersen scored on a fielder's choice and Lang drove in Conor Behrens on a double down the left field line.  Jackson Fuller singled through the left side to drive in both Lang and Teter while Degener capped off the inning with an RBI-single to give the Lions a 15-2 lead.  Mississippi College scored one run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Lindenwood offense was too much for the Choctaws to handle.

Lindenwood improves to 4-3 on the season while Mississippi College drops to 1-6 on the year.  The Lions will play their first home game of the season with a doubleheader against Augustana (S.D.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
