Women’s Hockey Sets Season-High Mark in Shots During Loss to Penn State

The Lindenwood women's hockey team was defeated 2-0 by the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoon at Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo. Lindenwood finished the game with a season-high 41 shots, the team's highest shot total since March 1, 2013.

After three and a half minutes of scoreless action to begin play, Penn State tallied two goals in a 24 second span to build a two-goal lead in the opening period. Both Nittany Lion scores came at even-strength. Amy Petersen and Aly Hardy were the goal scorers for Penn State.

Despite trailing by two scores at the close of the first period, Lindenwood outshot Penn State 12-8, and also won 13 of the 19 faceoffs. Cierra Paisley led the Lady Lions with three first-period shots, while Holly Dietzler paced Lindenwood in the faceoff circle, winning five of her seven draws.

Lindenwood continued its strong play throughout the second period, outshooting Penn State 19-6 during the middle period. The Lady Lions held a 31-14 edge in shots after 40 minutes of play, but the Nittany Lions maintained the two-goal lead.

For the third-consecutive period Lindenwood outshot Penn State, but was unable to cut into the Nittany Lion lead. Penn State's Hannah Ehresman finished the afternoon with a 41-save shutout performance, as Penn State prevailed by a final score of 2-0.

Lindenwood finished the game with a 41-21 edge in shots and a 33-24 lead in faceoffs. Paisley, Taylor Girard, and Emma Hare each posted five shots to lead the Lady Lions.

Lindenwood failed to score on its lone power-play opportunity. The Lady Lions did not commit a penalty during the game.

Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 5-20-2 and 3-12-1 in CHA action. With the victory, Penn State improves to 8-17-5 and 7-7-2 in conference play. Lindenwood will return to action on February 17-18 for its final road series of the regular season at Mercyhurst. Puck drop for the series opener with the Lakers on February 17 is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET from Erie, Pa.
