Lions Split Doubleheader with Augustana on Saturday

The Lindenwood baseball team split its doubleheader with Augustana on Saturday by winning game one 2-0 and losing the second game 3-2 at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

Brendan Feldmann pitched a great game in the opening matchup as he tossed a complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts.  Feldmann allowed just two hits and walked just one runner while earning his first victory of the season.  Drew Quinones and Wes Degener led the team with three hits on the day while Quinones tallied two doubles and Degener scored one time.  Brett Andersen drove in two runs on two hits and Austin Georgen threw three innings in the second game and allowed just three hits with two strikeouts.

Andersen drove in the first run of the day in the third inning to give Lindenwood a 1-0 lead.  Two innings later, Andersen laid down a sacrifice bunt allowing Sam Baxter to score and give the Lions a two-run buffer.  Lindenwood played a strong defensive game, but the phenomenal pitching performance by Feldmann was too much for the Vikings to handle as the Lions earned a 2-0 victory in game one.

Game two saw more offensive production from the hits category, but Lindenwood could only muster up one run as the pitchers ruled the day.  Tyler Muehling drew a walk in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 and giving the Lions a chance to take the lead.  Degener made a clutch throw form the outfield to can a runner at home in the fifth inning, but Augustana hit a double later in the inning to regain the lead.  The Vikings added a run in the top of the eight to put the pressure on the Lions and force Lindenwood to fight from a 3-1 deficit.  Quinones hit a one-out double down the left field line to drive in Degener, but the next two batter struck out swinging to end the game.

Lindenwood moves to 5-4 on the season while Augustana sits at 2-5 on the year.  The three-game series will wrap up on Sunday as the Vikings and Lions play at 11 a.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
