Day Two
The Lindenwood wrestling team rounded up its stay in Moorhead, Minn. on Saturday as it placed seven wrestlers and sent one to the NCAA Division II National Championships
Kyle Jolas highlighted the Lions with his second place finish at 165 pounds. He edged out the No. 1 seed in the semifinals by a narrow 7-6 decision to guarantee himself a berth into the national tournament. He eventually fell in the finals in an 8-0 major decision to conclude his bout.
Hunter Haralson nearly reached the finals at 133 pounds, but lost in a sudden victory to send him to the consolation. He pinned his first opponent before barely losing in a 4-3 decision for third place. He had one more match in which he again barely fell for a berth into the national tournament with a 3-2 decision.
After losing his second round,
Batchka Zulkhuu went on a tear in the consolation, collecting a decision, major decision, and a pin respectively to reach the third place matchup. He would fall in a major decision to set up a fourth place contest and berth to the national tournament. Unfortunately, he was ousted by major decision to finish up his run.
Carlos Jacquez,
David Hamil, and
Jake Borgmeyer each finished sixth in their respective flights at 125, 184, and heavyweight.
Jolas will travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the NCAA Division II National Championships taking place on March 10-11 starting at 9 am.
Day One
Eight wrestlers from Lindenwood's team are still competing in the Super Regional after day one concluded on Friday.
Three Lions reached the semifinals in their respective brackets.
Carlos Jacquez collected two decisions in the 125 bout while
Hunter Haralson pinned one opponent and edged his next by decision at 133 pounds.
Kyle Jolas won his first round with a decision followed by a major decision at 165 pounds.
Derek Heil lured in two decisions to stay afloat in the 141 division while
Batchka Zulkhuu posted a technical fall in the main draw then a decision in the consolation at 174 pounds. After receiving a bye into the second round and barely falling in the main draw,
David Hamil pinned his first opponent in the consolation at 184 pounds.
Dillon Archer and
Jake Borgmeyer each won by major decision in the first round at 197 and 285 respectively before losing in the second round. They each won their next match to stay in the tournament.
