The Lindenwood softball team lost in 10 innings to Ashland to begin day two at the Rosemont Invitational, but failed to build momentum in a game-two loss to Winona State. The Lady Lions are now 2-2 on the weekend in Rosemont, Ill.

Ashland 4, Lindenwood 3
Â
The Lady Lions dropped a tough game to the Ashland Eagles to begin the day.
Â
Lindenwood struck first in the top of the second inning with a pair of runs. With one out,
Becca Stocker bunted to score
Austine Pauley from third, advancing
Morgan Brown to third base. Galka helped her own cause slapping a single to third to score Brown to give Lindenwood the early 2-0 lead.
Â
The Eagles threatened through the first four innings, totaling six singles, but Galka stranded seven runners to keep the Lady Lion lead at two. Ashland broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning taking advantage of a couple Lindenwood errors. With two outs, the Eagles hit consecutive singles to knock in a pair of unearned runs to tie the game at 2-2.
Â
Lindenwood's offense stalled in innings six and seven, but Galka worked around a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to put a runner on third base and forced extra frames. The freshman southpaw retired seven-straight hitters before the 10
th inning to give the Lady Lions chances at offense.
Â
Lindenwood put a run on the board in the top half of the inning after
Kimberly Fozzard bunted Galka over to third and
Maddie Bohr singled to give the team the lead.
Maria Tippit reached on a fielder's choice after Bohr then proceeded to steal second base, but that was it for Lindenwood in the 10
th inning.
Â
After a couple of failed bunt attempts in the bottom half of the inning, the Eagles still managed to get the runner on second over to third with just one out. An infield single and a stolen base put the winning run in scoring position before a wild pitch by Galka tied the game at 3-3. The lefty struck out the next Ashland hitter for the second out, but then surrendered a single to left field for Ashland to win, 4-3.
Â
Galka was hit with the loss despite only giving up one earned run in 9.2 innings of work.
Madi Huot, Bohr, and Galka each had two hits, while Pauley and Tippit both had two stolen bases.
Â
Winona State 4, Lindenwood 0
Â
The Warriors struck early off Fozzard after a single scored the leadoff triple to give them a 1-0 lead. After the righty induced a pop out, catcher
Faith Koffron caught WSU stealing to end the hope of another Warrior run. In the top of the second, Winona State used another leadoff hit followed by a sacrifice bunt to lead 2-0 when a bunt single down the third-base line failed to force a throw from the Lindenwood defense.
The Lady Lions had their chances in each of the first couple innings. Fozzard led off the home half of the first inning with a walk, but Galka lined out to shortstop and caught her off first base for the double play.
Lexi Theis doubled to left-center field in the second inning for her first hit of the season, but that was all for Lindenwood.
Â
Theis had a chance in the bottom of the fourth inning after Huot and Brown reached with two outs, but a hard grounder failed to reached the outfield and the Lindenwood threat was halted.
Â
Fozzard retired 11-straight Warriors' hitters after allowing a single to lead off the third inning. The righty hit a batsman before allowing a hit, but would hold the deficit to two runs. It looked like the Lady Lions would cut into the lead in their half of the seventh after
Brooke Tiehes singled to left field with nobody out.
Hannah Johnson showed bunt, then pull back and hit one hard up the middle, but the Winona State shortstop was positioned perfectly to turn the double play.
Â
Fozzard surrendered two more runs in the top of the seventh on four hits to grow the deficit to 4-0 before Lindenwood's final chance.
Maria Tippit led off with a pinch-hit single and Tiehes had another knock to the opposite field, but no runs came across the plate to end the game.
Â
Fozzard suffered the loss to drop to 2-3 on the season, while Brown collected another knock to total three hits on the day.
Â
After earning a pair of wins on the first day of the Rosemont Invitational, Lindenwood drops a couple to fall to 3-5 on the season. The Lady Lions will wrap up competition in Rosemont tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. when they play Lewis.Â
