Five Runs in the Third Inning Helps Lindenwood to 10-7 Victory on Saturday

The Lindenwood baseball team defeated Missouri Southern 10-7 on Saturday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

Ryan Sosnowski registered three RBI on two hits with two runs scored while Bobby Lang had two hits and two RBI.  Wes Degener and Drew Quinones each scored twice and Vince Saladino poked his first homerun of the year.  Blake Beckmann threw six innings out of the bullpen and slowed just two earned runs on eight hits and struck out three batters en route to his second victory.

Missouri Southern scored three runs on four hits to start the game and put the pressure on Lindenwood immediately.  Sosnowski hit a single to center to drive in Degener and cut the deficit to 3-1 after the first inning of play.  Lindenwood put together a huge third inning that started with a single by Degener and led to an errant throw by the catcher two batters later to put Lindenwood down 3-2.  Sosnowski hit another single, this time to left center to drive in two runs and give the host Lions a 4-3 lead.  Rayce Singbush drove in Sosnowski with a double to right center and Lang drove in Singbush on a single to left field, leading to a 6-4 Lindenwood advantage.

Lindenwood surrendered a run in the top of the fourth, but responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth due to a sacrifice fly by Lang and an RBI-single by Sam Baxter.  The visiting Lions scored two runs in the top of the sixth to pull within two runs, but a home run by Saladino put the buffer back to three runs for Lindenwood.  Kyle Teter led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple to right center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Singbush.  Missouri Southern added a run in the top of the ninth, but the damage was done as Lindenwood closed out the game with a 10-7 victory.

Lindenwood improves to 7-5 on the year and 1-1 in the MIAA while Missouri Southern drops to 8-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.  The final game of the three-game series with Missouri Southern will begin at 12 p.m. on Sunday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
