The Lindenwood baseball team won its first game of the 2017 season by a 5-1 margin over Christian Brothers on Saturday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn.

Andrew Eilers and
Brendan Feldmann led the Lions to the victory with stellar pitching throughout the game. Eilers pitched five innings, allowed just one run on two hits and struck out nine batters while Feldmann compiled five strikeouts in four scoreless innings and surrendered just four hits.Â
Ryan Sosnowski led the team with three hits including two doubles and an RBI.Â
Rayce Singbush registered an RBI on one hit and one run scored as the Lions registered nine hits and the Bucs tallied just six.

Sam Baxter drove in the first run for the Lions in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1. Lindenwood took the lead in the top of the fifth after
Paul Sherwood grounded out to third base, allowing Singbush to score and put Lindenwood up 2-1 after five innings of play. Sosnowski ripped a double down the line in the top of the sixth to bring in
Kyle Teter and Sosnowski scored on a single up the middle by Singbush.

The Lions held a 4-1 lead after six innings and added an insurance run in the final inning.Â
Vince Saladino drove a single into left field to bring in Sherwood for the 5-1 Lindenwood advantage. Eilers picked up the 5-1 win while Feldmann tallied the first save of the season.

Lindenwood improves to 1-1 on the year while Christian Brothers falls to 1-2 on the season. The Lions will close out the three-game series with the Bucs on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
