Both Lindenwood tennis teams had tough going against MIAA-rival Southwest Baptist, losing 8-1 each on Friday.
On the women's side,
Tereza Melicharkova and
Clara Piccamiglio contested against the Bearcats' No. 1 doubles team, pushing them to the brink in the eight-game pro set. However, the Bearcats' edged them out in the end with the 9-7 victory to complete the sweep in doubles.
Melicharkova shined in the singles portion of the match as she collected a three-set victory at No. 1 for the Lady Lions. She lost the first set 6-3 then rebounded with a 6-4 second set win followed by a 10-1 tiebreak clincher. The Bearcats lured in the remaining singles matches to take the dual victory.
Filip Bogic and
Naoufal El Idrissi kept the men's dual close when they went the distance to win at No. 1 doubles. They stamped a nailbiting tiebreaker-win by a final score of 10-8. The Bearcats led the dual 2-1 when they defeated the Lions in the remaining doubles contests.
Theo Butaeye and Coretin Seywart came the closest to grabbing victories for the Lions in singles, but the Bearcats swept singles. Butaeye, the No. 3 singles player, fell by a 6-3, 7-5 score while No. 6 Seywart competed in a close 7-5 first set then lost 6-2 in the second.
After the defeats, the women fall to 4-5 on the year while the men become 3-6. They will travel to Orlando, Fla. for spring break to compete against various schools. The women will face Franklin Pierce first on Monday while the men will go up against St. Thomas Aquinas.
