The No. 4-ranked Lindenwood men's lacrosse team won its third straight game in a 12-7 game over Wheeling Jesuit on the road on Thursday.
The Lions dominated the first half on both sides of the ball, scoring the bulk of their goals and allowing just two tallies during that time span. In the first quarter, the Lions outscored the Cardinals 3-1 thanks to a goal from
Kevin Eskridge and two from
David Corazalla. Corazalla also assisted on Eskridge's goal to give him three points for the quarter.
The Lions went out in full force during the second quarter, blistering through the Cardinals with five consecutive goals scored by a different player each time.
Bryan Bevelhimer and
Josh Coons scored the first two goals followed by scores from
Sam Heaton and
Connor Eskridge to extend the Lions' lead to 7-1. Corazalla piled onto his stat-filled day with his third goal of the half with 3:33 left. Although the Cardinals scrapped together a goal before the conclusion of the half, the Lions still led the way by a scorching 8-2 edge.
However, the Cardinals responded in the second half with a scoring spree of their own, luring in four straight goals to cut down the Lions' lead to two.
Sean Darroch put an end to that frenzy with his first goal of the day at the 1:33 mark to give the Lions' a three-score lead.
The Cardinals did register a goal in the beginning of the fourth quarter, but the Lions sprinted to the finish line, collecting two scores from Corazalla and one off the stick of Coons. Although the Lions turned the ball over six times in the final quarter, their defense came through by forcing the Cardinals to also six turnovers. The combination of solid offense and stout defense helped seal the fifth victory of the season for the Lions.
Tyler Schermann had another successful outing at midfield, converting 10 of 16 faceoffs and picking up four groundballs. Corazalla's six points tied a season-high he set against Ohio Valley on March 4.
Ben Besancenez had a good day in goalie, recording 14 saves on 26 total shots faced and 21 on-goal.
The victory improves the Lions' record to 5-1 on the year as they will travel back home to take on Adams State on Sunday at 7 pm from Hunter Stadium.
