The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team won its second RMAC road game of the week on Thursday afternoon, recording a convincing 20-4 victory over the Fort Lewis Skyhawks from Durango, Colo. Lindenwood eclipsed the 20-goal plateau for the first time this season, and the first time since April 30, 2016.
Sophie Buelow wasted little time giving Lindenwood a lead to open the game, scoring her 14th goal of the season just 95 seconds into the contest.
Allison Hurley dished out the assist on the first goal of the game for the Lady Lions.
Fort Lewis answered quickly, tying the score at 1-1 just 72 seconds after the Buelow goal. The Fort Lewis goal would be its lone score of the half, as Lindenwood outscored the Skyhawks, 13-0 during the remainder of the half.
Rachel Benzing powered the Lady Lion offense during the 13-goal run, finding the back of the cage four times, while also assisting on a
Maria Johnson score.
Morgan Judd and Hurley scored twice during the first half for Lindenwood, while
Sarah Cromer,
Sarah Goetz, and
Cassie Stucklen all notched one goal for the Lady Lions. Lindenwood held a 14-1 lead after 30 minutes of play.
The second half dominance continued for Lindenwood, as the team outscored its opponent by a 6-3 margin during the final half of play, bringing the score to its final count of 20-4.
Xenia Du Mont and
Hunter Waldau highlighted the second half scoring attack for Lindenwood, as both registered their first goals of the season. For Du Mont, the goal was her first-career point.
Delaney Solomon made her first start of the season in net for the Lady Lions, stopping seven of the 11 shots sent in her direction. The win was the first of the season for Solomon.
Benzing paced Lindenwood with a five-point effort, followed by Johnson who poured in four points. Buelow, Hurley, Judd, and Stucklen each posted three-point performances. In all 14 different players had a point in the game.
Lindenwood held its opponent to under five goals for the first time this season. The Lady Lions had six caused turnovers during the game, and scooped up 12 ground balls.
Following the victory, Lindenwood improves to 5-0 and 2-0 from within the RMAC. Lindenwood will conclude its three-game road trip on Saturday afternoon against the Westminster Griffons. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. MT/1:00 p.m. CT from Salt Lake City, Utah.
