No. 2 Women’s Lacrosse Posts Shutout Victory to Conclude Three-Game Road Trip

The No. 2 ranked Lindenwood women's lacrosse team recorded a 23-0 shutout victory over the Westminster Griffons on Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City, Utah. The shutout was Lindenwood's first since February 13, 2016, and the 23-goal margin of victory was the second-largest win in program history.

Lindenwood dominated the action from the game's opening draw, scoring its first goal, and eventual game-winner at the 27:43 mark of the first half. Allison Hurley netted the score for the Lady Lions, her first of four goals on the afternoon.

After grabbing the 1-0 lead, Lindenwood would score 11 more times during the first half, to take a 12-0 lead into the halftime intermission. Sophie Buelow tallied three goals in the half, while Rachel Benzing, Carly Fedorowski, and Cassie Stucklen all found the back of the cage twice before halftime.

Lindenwood continued its scoring pace during the final half of play, tacking on 11 goals over the final 30 minutes, bringing the game to its eventual final of 23-0.

The Lady Lions boasted eight different goal scorers during the second half, including multi-goal efforts from Benzing, Buelow, and Hannah Doughty. Fedorowski and Hurley each scored once to add to their first-half goal totals. Sarah Cromer, Hunter Waldau, and Emma Wildhart all scored their lone goals of the game during the second half. For Wildhart, the goal was the first score of her collegiate career.

Aly Smith made the first start of her career in net for Lindenwood, earning a shutout victory in the process. Smith stopped all three shots sent her way.

Erin Abbott led the Lady Lions with six caused turnovers, five draw controls, and four groundballs. Abbott also dished out two assists for Lindenwood.

Savannah Phillips and Morgan Reader each caused two turnovers, while Phillips scooped up three groundballs.

Following the victory, Lindenwood improved its record to 6-0 to begin the season and 3-0 from within RMAC play. The Lady Lions will return home for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The twin bill gets started with a 3:00 p.m. game against McKendree, and concludes with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against Adams State.
