The Lindenwood softball team swept Quincy on a cold Thursday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
Â
In game one, the Lady Lions scored early, but needed a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Hawks. Lindenwood put up a pair of crooked numbers in game two to win 11-7.
Â
Game One
Â
Austine Pauley put the Lady Lions on the scoreboard early in the second inning with a two-run shot that scored
Madi Huot.
Â
The visiting Hawks scored four unanswered runs, one coming in the third inning and three more after an error in the fifth inning. Lindenwood evened the score in its half of the inning when
Kimberly Fozzard drilled a two-run homer of her own to tie the score, 4-4.
Â
Pauley drove in her third run of the game in the sixth inning when she singled through the right side to score pinch-runner
Kourtney Bunselmeyer. After working around an error to lead off the inning, freshman
Stormee Galka retired the next two hitters before allowing a game-tying double.
Â
The Lady Lions failed to let the cold temperatures keep them down when they had a chance to walk off with a victory.
Morgan Brown and
Brooke Tiehes reached to lead off the seventh inning before pinch-hitter
Maria Tippit loaded the bases when she reached on an error.
Becca Stocker played hero with her second hit of the game, a single up the middle to score Brown and win the game 6-5.
Â
Pauley drove in three on the game and recorded two hits. Brown and Stocker each had a multi-hit game. Galka went the distance, surrendering eight hits and one free pass. The win gives the southpaw her fifth victory of the season.
Â
Game Two
Â
Fozzard received the start inside the circle for the second game. The Hawks scored two runs in the first inning immediately, but the Lady Lions would answer back with five of their own.
Lexi Theis,
Faith Koffron, and Pauley each drove in a run on a single, while
Bethany Fountain drove in a run on a groundout.
Â
The teams exchanged runs the next couple innings, but Lindenwood score four in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 10-3 lead. Brown doubled home a pair of runs, while
Brooke Tiehes got in on the fun with a two-run single of her own.
Â
After Fozzard allowed two more runs in the sixth inning, and one in the seventh, Galka entered in relief for the save opportunity. The lefty allowed a run to score on her first batter, but the freshman struck out a Quincy pinch-hitter before inducing a popup to Brown to end the game with an 11-7 victory.
Â
Fozzard earned her third win of the season while Galka recorded her first-career save.
Â
Brown, Galka, and Pauley each had four hits between the two games. The freshman shortstop led the Lady Lions with four RBIs, and Brown scored three runs.
Â
The sweep improves Lindenwood to 8-8 on the season, and will look to continue look for wins tomorrow afternoon at Missouri S&T. First pitch for the twin bill is scheduled for 2 p.m.
