Paul Sherwood Drives Lindenwood Past Central Oklahoma

The Lindenwood baseball team battled for nine innings to earn a 6-4 win over Central Oklahoma on Saturday night at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

Paul Sherwood had a clutch game for the Lions as he drove in four runs on two hits including the go-ahead single in the sixth inning.  Sam Baxter crossed the plate twice in the game and Blake Beckmann recovered from a shaky start and finished the game with six innings pitched and seven strikeouts to tally his fifth win of the season.  Connor Law shut the door for the sixth time this season in the three-inning save to put Lindenwood in a position to win the season series.

Central Oklahoma scored all four of its runs in the first two innings on five hits.  Lindenwood answered back after Conor Behrens and Kyle Teter started the second inning with back-to-back singles.  Sam Baxter was hit by a pitch and Rayce Singbush drove in one run on the next pitch.  Sherwood drove in two runs shortly after to pull the Lions within one run after two innings of play.

Sherwood came through in the sixth inning with a two-out single down the right field line to drive in Singbush and Baxter to give Lindenwood a 5-4 lead.  Wes Degener added a run for the Lions on a single to right center that allowed Nick Paulda to score from second and put the Lions ahead by two runs.  Law did not let the Bronchos gain momentum and Lindenwood held on for the 6-4 win.

Lindenwood improves to 14-9 on the year and 7-4 in the MIAA while the Bronchos fall to 16-6-1 on the season and 6-5 in conference play.  The Lions will look to take the series on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
