Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 2 Women’s Lacrosse Wins Fourth and Fifth Games of the Week During Doubleheader Sweep

The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team won two games on Sunday afternoon, marking the team's fourth and fifth victories of the week. The doubleheader was played at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. In its first game of the day, Lindenwood cruised past CSU-Pueblo by a final score of 24-9, before concluding the day with a 9-5 victory over the Indianapolis Greyhounds.

Lindenwood 24 – CSU-Pueblo 9
Allison Hurley continued her dominant play, leading all scorers with a game-high seven point performance. Hurley found the back of the cage five times, while dishing out two assists. Cassie Stucklen tallied her third hat trick of the season, and finished the game with six points. Hunter Waldau also scored three times, recording the first multi-goal game of her Lady Lion career.

Jenna Battaglini, Maria Johnson, Morgan Judd, and Remi Larson each scored twice for Lindenwood. The Lady Lions also received goals from Sophie Buelow, Sarah Cromer, Sarah Goetz, Carly Fedorowski, and Savannah Phillips during the team's fifth RMAC victory of the season.

Morgan Reader led the Lindenwood defensive unit with a career-high five caused turnovers. Reader also scooped up three groundballs, and secured one draw control. Cromer paced the Lady Lions with four draw controls, and Molly Beckham had a team-high four groundballs.

Delaney Solomon earned her third victory of the season in the cage for Lindenwood. Solomon stopped nine of the 18 shots sent her way. Aly Smith relieved Solomon in net for the final six minutes, and did not face a shot.

Lindenwood 9 – Indianapolis 5
Indianapolis began the game strong, scoring the games' first three goals over a 13:21 stretch to take an early 3-0 lead over Lindenwood.

The Lady Lions answered by scoring four of the final five goals during the first half, to head into halftime even at 4-4. Maria Johnson opened the scoring for Lindenwood with an unassisted score, before Cassie Stucklen, Morgan Judd, and Sarah Goetz all lit the lamp for the Lady Lions.

Judd would tally the first goal of the second half at the 21:49 mark, giving Lindenwood its first lead of the game at 5-4. The lead was short-lived, as Indianapolis would tie the game at 5-5 just 61 seconds later.

The score would remain tied at 5-5 until Goetz sniped the upper-right corner, scoring what would prove to be the game-winning goal for Lindenwood with 11:47 remaining in the contest.

The Lady Lions would tack on three more goals to close out the Greyhounds by a final score of 9-5. Jenna Battaglini, Sophie Buelow, and Goetz were the goal scorers for Lindenwood.

Rachel Ortell made her seventh start of the season in goal for the Lady Lions, collecting her seventh win and stopping eight of the 13 shots sent in her direction.

Molly Beckham caused a game-high five turnovers for Lindenwood, while Savannah Phillips scooped up a team-best four groundballs. Shannon Modl led the Lady Lions with three draw controls secured.

Following its two victories on the day, Lindenwood improves its record to 11-0 on the season. The Lady Lions prevailed in their lone RMAC match of the day, boosting their conference record to 5-0. Lindenwood will return to action on Tuesday evening for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with UCCS Mountain Lions. The game will be played at Hunter Stadium.
