Baseball Sweeps Washburn with 8-2 Victory on Saturday

The Lindenwood baseball team swept Washburn with an 8-2 win on Saturday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

Wes Degener tallied his 200th career hit and Kyle Hentis earned his fifth win on the season after tossing seven innings while registering eight strikeouts.  The Lions posted 11 hits on the day including two hits apiece from four different players.  Sam Baxter put the exclamation point on the series with a solo blast in the eighth inning.

Lindenwood scored on a wild play in the bottom of the second after three fielding errors by the Ichabods allowed Drew Quinones to score from first base.  The Lions added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth with the help of an RBI-single by Paul Sherwood and a two-run triple to center field by Degener.

Lindenwood did not let up in the fifth inning as a rally was started by a leadoff-double by Ryan Sosnowski.  Quinones moved Sosnowski to third on a single thorugh the right side and Rayce Singbush drove in both runners on a single up the middle for a 6-0 lead.  The Ichabods picked up two runs in the top of the seventh to cut into the Lindenwood lead, but the Lions remained poised and kept Washburn from scoring again.

The Lions picked up a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth after Singbush scored after hitting a triple to right center.  Baxter hit a solo blast over the left field wall through strong wins to put the Lions ahead 8-2.  Blake Beckmann closed the door in the final two innings as he tallied three strikeouts to seal the series sweep.

Lindenwood improves to 25-14 on the season and 18-9 in the MIAA while the Ichabods drop to 19-20 on the year and 11-17 in conference play.  The Lions will head to Emporia, Kan. to take on No. 13 Emporia State in a three-game series starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
