Second-Half Push Sends No. 2 Women’s Lacrosse to 16th Consecutive Victory

The No. 2 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team extended its winning-streak to 16 games with a dominant 14-8 non-conference victory over the No. 8 Queens Royals on Monday afternoon in Charlotte, N.C. With the victory Lindenwood improves to 7-0 against ranked opponents this season, and have outscored the competition 104-58 during those seven games.
 
Queens scored twice in the first 67 seconds of the game to take an early two-goal lead. Hannah Doughty would register the first goal of the afternoon just over three minutes later, bringing Lindenwood within one score of Queens. The Royals would reestablish the two-goal lead, scoring the next goal 3:01 after Doughty's tally.
 
The score remained 3-1 in favor of Queens as the first half approached its midway point, until Rachel Benzing assisted Allison Hurley for Lindenwood's second goal of the game at the 17:36 mark. Benzing would notch another assist 19 seconds later, this time setting up Cassie Stucklen for the goal, helping the Lady Lions tie the score at 3-3.
 
Doughty would net her second score of the game with 15:54 showing on the clock, giving Lindenwood its first lead of the day. Nearly two minutes later, Hurley would follow with her second goal, pushing the Lady Lions ahead by a score of 5-3.
 
Queens scored two of the final three goals of the first half, cutting the Lindenwood lead to 6-5 at halftime.
 
The Royals tied the score at 6-6 just 92 seconds into the final half. Sophie Buelow put the Lady Lions back in front, scoring an unassisted goal just 41 seconds later. Queens continued to fight back, again tying the score at 7-7 with just over 24 minutes remaining.
 
Lindenwood responded over the next 22:24 by outscoring Queens 7-0, growing a 14-7 lead. Benzing registered three goals during the scoring outburst for the Lady Lions, while Carly Fedorowski found the back of the cage twice. Also scoring for Lindenwood during the stretch were Morgan Judd and Stucklen.
 
Queens would score its final goal with 1:40 remaining in the game, bringing the game to its final score of 14-8.
 
Rachel Ortell started in net for the Lady Lions, making seven saves en route to her 11th victory of the season. Ortell made six of her seven saves during the second half, as Lindenwood pulled away down the stretch.
 
Seven players posted multi-point performances for the Lady Lions, led by Benzing's five points. Buelow, Doughty, Fedorowski, Hurley, and Stucklen all finished the contest with two goals each.
 
Erin Abbott secured a team-high four draw controls, and tied with Savannah Phillips for the team lead in ground balls with three. Fedorowski caused a team-best three turnovers.
 
Following the victory Lindenwood improves to 16-0 to begin the season. The Lady Lions will return to Hunter Stadium on April 22 for a 1:00 p.m. game with Oklahoma Baptist. Prior to the game, Lindenwood will honor its 2017 senior class during the annual Senior Day ceremonies.
