Brendan Feldmann Shuts Down Fort Hays State

The Lindenwood baseball team used a balanced hitting approach to tally an 8-4 win over Fort Hays State on Saturday night in Hays, Kan.

The Lions compiled 13 hits including three hits each from Drew Quinones and Kyle Teter while Wes Degener and Brett Andersen registered two hits apiece.  Brendan Feldmann was a force on the mound as he tossed the final five innings of the game, allowed just two hits and tallied seven strikeouts to earn his third win of the season.

Degener led off the game with a double to right center and later scored on a Quinones single down the left field line to put Lindenwood in front 1-0.  The Tigers posted two runs in the bottom of the third, but a double by Quinones in the top of the fourth led to a run scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2.  Fort Hays State added two more runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth as the bleeding could have been worse with three runners stranded to end the inning.

The Lions rallied in the top of the sixth inning after Nick Paulda scored on a sacrifice bunt by Rayce Singbush to cut the deficit to one run.  Andersen roped a single up the middle to bring in Sam Baxter and Kyle Teter to give Lindenwood a one-run lead.  Tyler Muehling drove in Andersen later in the inning to give the Lions a 6-4 lead after six innings.

Quinones led off the top of the seventh inning with a solo blast to left center on the second pitch of his at-bat.  Baxter had an impressive eighth inning as he drew a walk, stole second, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch to put the Lions ahead 8-4 and Lindenwood held on for the victory.

Lindenwood improves to 21-14 on the season and 14-9 in the MIAA while Fort Hays State falls to 9-24 on the year and 2-18 in conference play.  The final game of the three-game series with Fort Hays State will start at noon on Sunday in Hays, Kan.
