Stormee Galka had a career day on Saturday afternoon against Lincoln for the Lindenwood softball team. The southpaw earned the win in each game, totaling 11 for the season, which is a Lindenwood single-season record in its NCAA era. The freshman also had a pair of three-hit games, raising her season batting average to .324.
The offense knocked around 27 hits on the day, the most in a doubleheader for the team in 2017. In game one, the Lady Lions defeated the Blue Tigers by a score of 11-1 before defeating them 8-1 in the nightcap.
Austine Pauley had four hits, including a homer in game one. The freshman drove in seven runs between both games, while scoring four herself. Pauley's day gives her 41 total bases on the season, which currently leads the team.Â
Hannah Johnson also had four hits, with three knocks in game one.
Brooke Tiehes added four hits to her season total, now raising her batting average to a team-leading .351.Â
Galka struck out seven in 12 innings of work, while only allowing nine hits and two earned runs. The freshman now has an ERA of 3.11 this season in 119.1 innings.Â
Game One
Lindenwood struck immediately in the first inning when Pauley singled to lead of the game. The freshman moved all the way to third base on an error by Lincoln, and crossed the plate on an
Adele Linderman ground out. Johnson kept it going for the Lady Lions with a single and came around to score when
Lexi Theis drove her in with a knock.Â
Pauley and Johnson singled again in the second, taking advantage of Galka and Tiehes doubles to begin the frame. The Johnson single made the score 5-0 after an inning and a half.
Lincoln got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning, but Lindenwood earned the run back whenÂ
Kourtney Bunselmeyer picked up an RBI in the third when she reached on a fielder's choice to score Tiehes to make it 8-1. Pauley drilled her third homer of the year in the fifth before Johnson singled to score Linderman and give Lindenwood the 10-run lead.Â
Galka finished out the game retiring six of the final eight Blue Tiger hitters, including two of her three strikeouts.Â
Game Two
The Lady Lions didn't score until the second inning, but put up a crooked number in doing so.
Morgan Brown doubled to lead off the inning and scored when
Kimberly Fozzard reached on an error. Tiehes, Galka, and Pauley recorded three straight hits to score another trio of runs for a Lindenwood 4-0 advantage. The Lady Lions tacked on another run in the third inning when Fozzard scored on a Tiehes single, and again in the fourth when Linderman touched home plate on a wild pitch.Â
Payton Wilson pinch-hit in the sixth inning, scoring Galka on a sacrifice fly, while
Maria Tippit also provided a pinch-hit knock to score Pauley and give Lindenwood the 8-0 lead. Lincoln pushed across the run in its half of the sixth to force the game to seven innings.Â
After surrendering a lead-off single, Galka sent down the Blue Tigers in order to complete the game and earn her 11th victory of the season.Â
The sweep improves Lindenwood to 15-18 on the season, matching 2016's win total as a team. The Lady Lions are currently riding a five-game winning streak, and are now 6-10 in MIAA action. Lindenwood will take a short break from conference play as it hosts McKendree on Tuesday from Lou Brock Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
