Baseball Reaches 30 Wins with 7-5 Victory on Saturday

The Lindenwood baseball team earned its 30th win of the season with a 7-5 win over Pittsburg State on Saturday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions had help from Sam Baxter who had two hits and three RBI in the game including a two-run home run.  Conor Behrens had a double in his first at-bat after missing an extended amount of time.  Wes Degener and Tyler Muehling each scored two runs and had one hit in the game to help the Lions to a two-run victory.

Pittsburg State jumped on the board first with a run in the top of the first and another in the top of the second.  Lindenwood responded with a two-run home run by Baxter to tie the game at 2-2.  The Gorillas added a pair of runs in the top of the third to regain the lead, but the Lions again battled back.  Baxter drove in Rayce Singbush on a single in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Kyle Teter singled through the left side of the infield to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Ryan Sosnowski put the Lions ahead with a single to shortstop that allowed Degener to score and Muehling took advantage of a fielding mistake to cross the plate for a 6-4 lead.

The Gorillas pulled within one run after the seventh inning, but Lindenwood added a run in the bottom of the eighth to hold a two-run advantage heading into the final frame.  Connor Law shut the door in the ninth inning to earn his 10th save of the season and helped the Lions to a 7-5 victory on Saturday.

Lindenwood improves to 30-17 on the year and 23-11 in the MIAA while the Gorillas drop to 23-26 on the year and 17-18 in conference play.  The Lions will celebrate their seniors on Sunday in a 12 p.m. game against Pittsburg State at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
