The Lindenwood women's soccer team earned its third victory of the season on Tuesday night, defeating the Missouri S&T Miners 1-0 from Hunter Stadium.
Alyssa Houck netted the game-winning goal in the 75th minute, while goalkeeper
Mary McGilvray posted her third shutout in four games.
Lindenwood dominated the match throughout the first half, outshooting Missouri S&T 12-1 during the period. Despite the large advantage in shots, the score remained tied as the teams entered halftime.
Becky Roberts led the team with two first-half shots on goal. McGilvray stopped the only shot sent in her direction during the frame.
The second half brought a more balanced attack from both sides, with each team having scoring chances. Twice during the half Missouri S&T had a one-on-one opportunity with only McGilvray defending the net, and twice McGilvray turned the Miners away.
Shortly after the second McGilvray save, Lindenwood brought the ball to the opposite end of the field and set up its offense. Roberts gained possession of the ball inside the Missouri S&T goal box and guided a pass towards Houck. Houck received the pass cleanly and deposited the ball into the back of the goal, for her second score of the season. Houck's goal in the 75th minute would stand up as the game-winning goal, her first such score this year.
McGilvray finished the evening with five saves, including four during the second half.
For the match, Lindenwood held the edge in shots (21-8), shots on goal (10-5), and corner kicks (6-1).
With the win Lindenwood improves its record to 3-1-0 on the season. The Lions will travel to take on No. 4 Central Missouri on Friday afternoon. Friday's game time is set for 7:00 p.m. from Warrensburg, Mo.
