Men’s Soccer Suffers Setback at Northeastern State

The Lindenwood men's soccer team lost its first MIAA match of the season on Friday evening, falling to the Northeastern State RiverHawks by a final score of 2-0 from Tahlequah, Okla. The loss snapped Lindenwood's three-match winning streak.

Northeastern State broke a scoreless tie in the 37th minute, as James Doyle tallied what would prove to be the game-winning score. The RiverHawks protected the one-goal lead for the remainder of the first half, and headed into halftime up on the Lions 1-0. Lindenwood recorded five shots during the first half, while Northeastern State had 10 shots.

Lindenwood sent three shots on goal during the second half, however, it was unable to pull even with Northeastern State. The RiverHawks added a penalty-kick goal in the 89th minute, bringing the match to its final score of 2-0.

Tim Licht stopped six of the eight shots he faced in goal for Lindenwood.

Stefan Andric and Johannes Brendle each registered two shots on goal for the Lions, tying for the team lead.

The RiverHawks finished the match with a 15-9 edge in shots, and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Lindenwood moves to 4-4-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Lions will return to action on Sunday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo. when Lindenwood will take on Southwest Baptist at 2:00 p.m.
