Women’s Hockey’s Third-Period Comeback Falls Short

The Lindenwood women's hockey team dropped the first game of its two-game series with Penn State on Friday evening from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo. Lindenwood scored once during the third period before ultimately dropping the CHA contest by a 3-1 score.

The Nittany Lions scored the first goal of the evening with exactly six minutes left in the opening period. Penn State's power-play goal proved to be the only tally of the period, as the Nittany Lions carried a one-goal lead into the intermission.

Penn State extended its lead to two goals during the second period, scoring at even strength at the 7:32 mark of the period.

With 8:30 remaining in the third period, Sierra Burt brought Lindenwood within one goal of Penn State, scoring her seventh goal of the season. Carla Goodwin and Ally Larson had the assists on the play.
Despite intensified pressure for the duration of regulation, Lindenwood was unable to even the score against Penn State.

With the Lindenwood goaltender pulled in the closing seconds of the game, Penn State added an additional score, bringing the game to its final count of 3-1.

Jolene deBruyn made the start in goal for the Lions, finishing the game with 28 saves. deBruyn stopped 14 of the 15 shots she faced during the first period.

Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 5-13-1 on the season and 3-6-0 in conference action. The two teams will return to Lindenwood Ice Arena tomorrow afternoon to conclude the series. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
