Gymnastics Posts One Of The Top Regular Season Road Marks In Program History

The Lindenwood gymnastics team was on the road on Monday afternoon in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Lady Lions had one of their best regular season road meets in program history, and they defeated Southeast Missouri by a score of 194.650-191.900.
 
Samantha Borges set the tone on the first routine of the day, scoring a 9.825 on the bars. Teammates Courtney Mitchell and Ryan Henry had high marks on the bars, as Mitchell scored a 9.875 and Henry recording a 9.850. Lindenwood finished with a team score on the bars of 48.925, its fourth-highest in program history and its best mark for a regular season meet.
 
Lindenwood continued its strong performance on its next two events. On the vault, Lindenwood had a team score of 48.800, tying for the eighth-best mark in program history. Kierstin Sokolowski led the team with a 9800, and four other Lady Lions had a 9.725 or higher.
 
The Lady Lions had a team score of 48.750 on the floor. Andavea Alexander and Breanna Franklin both had team-highs with 9.800 scores, and the top-five gymnasts all scored at least a 9.700 for Lindenwood.
 
The final event was the beam, and Lindenwood had its lowest score with a 48.175, which was lowered by the team having to count a 9.200 mark. Kyndall Baze led the Lady Lions with a 9.775, and the team again had a balanced effort with three other Lindenwood gymnasts scoring a 9.725 or higher.
 
Lindenwood won just one of the five individual titles with Mitchell taking first place in the bars. The team's all-around talent won the dual for the Lady Lions. Seventeen Lady Lions finished in the upper half of the four individual events, compared to nine for Southeast Missouri. Eighteen of the team's 24 routines scored at least a 9.700 mark.
 
Lindenwood will have its home opener this Friday at 7 p.m. at Hyland Arena. The Lady Lions will be taking on Centenary and Alaska-Anchorage in the tri-meet.
