Dominique Dobbs Ties School's Block Record To Lead Lions To A 69-58 Win

Lindenwood's defense, led by Dominique Dobbs' school-record seven blocks, helped the team pick up a big road victory on Thursday night in Bolivar, Mo. The Lions outscored Southwest Baptist by a 46-27 margin in the second half for a 69-58 victory.

Southwest Baptist appeared to take control of the game in the final seven minutes of the first half after it went on 13-0 run, and took a 31-20 lead in the game. Jackson Price hit a three-pointer in the final seconds on the half though to give Lindenwood momentum heading into halftime.

Lindenwood got back into the game in the second half with defense and free-throw shooting. The Lions took the lead for the first time in the half on a three-pointer by Jackson Price with 7:37 left in the game, and then went ahead for good on a Brad Newman layup two minutes later.

Southwest Baptist had the ball down two with under three minutes remaining when Dobbs had his record-tying block. He also got the rebound on the missed shot and found Adam Pohlman for a three-pointer that put Lindenwood up 61-56. That sparked a closing 11-2 run for the Lions.

Both teams struggled shooting in the first half, but the Bearcats outrebounded the Lions by nine boards and made seven more free throws to grab their 31-23 halftime lead. In the second half, Lindenwood held the Bearcats to under 30 percent shooting from the field, and the Lions won the rebounding battle in the half. After not shooting a free throw in the first half, the Lions went 18 times in the final 20 minutes, and made 17 of those shots.

Besides tying the school record with seven blocks, Dobbs also had a team-high 12 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive end. Offensively, Price finished with a team-high 18 points, including making four three-pointers. Newman had 17 points, including nine in the final six minutes of the game. Pohlman collected 12 points, all in the second half, and had a team-high five assists. Chandler Diekvoss was the fourth Lion in double-figure scoring with 11.

Lindenwood improves to 12-6 overall and 4-5 in MIAA play. The Lions will travel to Central Missouri for a 3:30 p.m. game on Saturday afternoon.
