The Lindenwood women's hockey team posted a 4-1 victory over the RIT Tigers on Friday evening from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
Sierra Burt led the way for the Lions with two goals, while
Cierra Paisley and
Courtney Ganske each had two points.
Paisley opened the scoring for Lindenwood, finding the back of the net just 80 seconds into the first period. Paisley's goal came unassisted and was her sixth of the season.
Lindenwood protected its one-goal lead until the 11:39 mark of the second period, when it added another goal to its total.
Megan Wagner created a turnover near the RIT goal and directed the puck to a wide open
Britannia Gillanders outside the goal crease. Gillanders lifted the puck over the RIT netminder, registering her fifth score of the year.
Lindenwood would outscore RIT by a 2-1 margin during the final frame, pushing the game to its final count of 4-1. Burt netted Lindenwood's third goal of the evening with just over 16 minutes remaining in the third period. Ganske and
Jolene deBruyn picked up the assists on the play.
Burt recorded an empty-net goal with 24 seconds left in regulation, and put Lindenwood ahead by an eventual final score of 4-1.
deBruyn notched her sixth win of the season in goal for the Lions, finishing the game with 26 saves. deBruyn had a game-high 12 saves during the first period.
Lindenwood outshot RIT 30-27, and won 33 of the 53 faceoffs.
With the victory, Lindenwood improves to 7-15-1 and 5-8-0 in conference play.
The Lions and Tigers will conclude the two-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. from Lindenwood Ice Arena.
