Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Strong Second Period Sends Women's Hockey to Series Sweep

The Lindenwood women's hockey team completed a two-game series sweep over the RIT Tigers on Saturday afternoon from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo. The Lions prevailed by a final score of 3-1, registering all three of their goals during the second period. The series sweep was Lindenwood's first since it took both games of a two-game set against Penn State on February 8-9, 2014

After a scoreless first period, Lindenwood tallied the game's first score at the 6:55 mark of the second period. Lillian Marchant earned the first goal of the afternoon for the Lions, with the assists going to Cierra Paisley and Britannia Gillanders.

RIT would even the score with just under five minutes remaining in the period, scoring an even-strength goal.

However, Lindenwood regained its one-goal lead while on the power play with 2:30 left in the middle frame. Hannah Alt picked up the power-play score, as Courtney Ganske and Gillanders had the assists.

Just 27 seconds later, Marchant struck again, scoring her second goal of the game to extend Lindenwood's lead to 3-1. Carla Goodwin and Ally Larson dished out the assists on Marchant's second score of the day.

Lindenwood and its goaltender, Jolene deBruyn, kept RIT off of the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, and completed the two-game series sweep. deBruyn recorded her eighth win of the season, making 26 saves in goal.

With the win, Lindenwood improves to 8-15-1 and 6-8-0 in CHA action.

The Lions will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. for a two-game series with the Robert Morris Colonials on February 9-10.
