The Lindenwood women's hockey team dropped the first game of its weekend series with the No. 10 Robert Morris Colonials on Friday afternoon from Pittsburgh, Pa. Robert Morris won the game by a 1-0 score.
The Colonials got off to a strong start, taking a 1-0 lead just 3:29 into the first period. Lindenwood was outshot 14-6 during the first period, which ended with Robert Morris maintaining its one-goal lead.
Lindenwood was unable to even the score over the next two periods, as the Robert Morris goaltender turned aside all 17 shots on goal.
Jolene deBruyn registered 35 saves in the game for the Lions, including 27 saves during the opening two periods.
Britannia Gillanders,
Lillian Marchant, and
Kirsten Martin each tied for the team lead with three shots apiece.
Cierra Paisley won a team-high six faceoffs, while
Megan Wagner secured five victories within the faceoff circle.
Each team finished the game 0-3 on the power play.
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 8-16-1 and 6-9-0 in conference play. The two teams will return to Colonials Arena tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. CT to conclude the two-game series.
