Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lindenwood Takes Down No. 10 St. Lawrence During Come-From-Behind Victory

The Lindenwood women's hockey team secured a 5-4 victory over No. 10 St. Lawrence on Friday evening from Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Lindenwood poured in three-goals during the final period to complete the come-from-behind victory.

St. Lawrence scored the lone goal during the first period, and carried a one-goal lead into the first intermission.

Lindenwood responded with back-to-back goals in the second period, taking a 2-1 lead over St. Lawrence. Hannah Alt netted the first goal of the game for the Lions, scoring at the 9:03 mark of the middle frame. For Alt, the goal was her fifth of the season.

Just 2:20 later, Megan Wagner tallied the first goal of her Lindenwood career to put the Lions in front by a one-goal margin.

St. Lawrence rattled off the next two scores to close out the second period, and took a 3-2 lead into the final period.

Lindenwood quickly erased its one-goal deficit to begin the third period. While on the power play, Cierra Paisley found the back of the net just 56 seconds into the final frame. Taylor Girard and Courtney Ganske dished out the assists on the play.

Lillian Marchant, a native of nearby Tustin, Calif., gave Lindenwood a 4-3 lead with just over 14 minutes left. Marchant's first goal of the season was assisted by Britannia Gillanders and Carla Goodwin.

Just 75 seconds after Marchant's goal, Girard scored her 12th goal of the season to extend Lindwood's lead to 5-3. Sierra Burt was credited with the assist on Girard's score.

St. Lawrence brought the game to 5-4 with just over 11 minutes left in the game, but that was as close as the Saints would come to evening the score. Lindenwood withstood the St. Lawrence pressure to close out the non-conference contest, and prevailed with the victory over the nation's 10th ranked team.

Jolene deBruyn earned the victory in goal for Lindenwood, her fourth of the season. deBruyn finished the game with 24 saves, including a game-high 12 saves in the second period.

Lindenwood scored on one of its two power plays, while managing to kill off four of the five St. Lawrence power plays.

With the victory, Lindenwood improves to 5-11-1 on the season, and posts its first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 7 Robert Morris on Janurary 13, 2017.

The Lions and Saints will conclude their two-game series tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. PT/2:00 p.m. CT from Honda Center.
