Scholl, Men's Soccer Dominant in Win Over Upper Iowa

MATCH OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood men's soccer team posted a dominant 4-1 victory over Upper Iowa on Sunday afternoon from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The win improves Lindenwood's record to 7-4-3 and 2-2-1 from within the MIAA.

Lindenwood took control of the match near the halfway point of the first half, as Gaspar Alvarez gave the Lions a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute.

Lindenwood added to its lead in the 34th minute as Joshua Scholl scored his first of two goals during the half. Scholl again found the back of the net just six minutes later to extend the Lion lead to a 3-0 margin heading into halftime.

Scholl picked up his third goal of the afternoon in the 52nd minute to bring the Lions' lead to 4-0.

The visiting Peacocks brought the Lindenwood lead back three goals with a score shortly after in the 54th minute.

That goal would be the final score of the afternoon, as Lindenwood protected its leader for the remainder of the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Scholl's hat trick was was his second multi-goal game of the season, and the first three-goal effort of his career.
- Scholl, who ranks third on the team with seven goals this season, also scored twice against Southwest Baptist on Sep. 30.
- The hat trick by Scholl was the first by a Lindenwood player since Thomas Hutcheson scored three times against Oakland City on Oct. 5, 2016.
- Alvarez's goal, his eighth of the season, tied him with Hutcheson for the team-lead.
- Jose de Gregorio picked up two assists on the afternoon, giving him four on the season. The multi-assist game for de Gregorio was the first of his career.
- Fernando Cordero and Luke McBeth each had assists in the match.
- Aleksa Nenadic started in goal for the Lions, stopping two of the three shots he faced.
- For Nenadic, the win was his sixth of the season.
- Lindenwood held the advantage in shots (20-12) and shots on goal (14-4)
