Men’s Soccer Prevails Over Oakland City

MATCH OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood men's soccer team posted a 3-1 victory over Oakland City during a non-conference match from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves Lindenwood's record to 5-3-2 on the season, and the Lions are now unbeaten in their last three matches.

The visiting Mighty Oaks opened the scoring in the 16th minute of the match, to take an early one-goal lead.

Lindenwood fought back throughout the first half, and eventually its efforts paid off, as Johannes Brendle netted an equalizing goal in the 37th minute.
 
Nearly eight minutes later, and with only 16 seconds remaining on the clock in the first half, Jose de Gregorio put Lindenwood ahead by a 2-1 score with his first goal of the season. The Lions entered halftime with a 2-1 lead.

Lindenwood protected it lead throughout the second half, and with time ticking down, the Lions added an insurance tally in the 88th minute. Gaspar Alvarez picked up the final goal of the afternoon, and gave Lindenwood a 3-1 win.

Aleksa Nenadic started in goal for the Lions, stopping two of the three shots he faced.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Brendle's goal, his second of the season, was assisted by Jose del Val and Joshua Scholl.
- Scholl's assist gives him 10 points for the season, tying him for second on the team in points, and makes him one of four Lions to reach double-digit points this season.
- de Gregorio finished the afternoon with one goal and one assist after being credited with an assist on Alvarez's score.
- Thomas Hutcheson had an assist on de Gregorio's goal, giving him a team-high 12 points this season.
- Hutcheson has scored in three straight matches, and has points in five of the team's 10 matches this season.
- Fernando Cordero also assisted on de Gregorio's goal, boosting his team-leading total to six assists on the season.

Lindenwood will travel to Hays, Kan. for a 12:00 p.m. matchup with the No. 14 Fort Hays State Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
