Roller Hockey Gold Squad Splits Four Games

The roller hockey Gold D4 squad split four games November 2-3 at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin, Missouri.  The Lions stopped St. Louis Community College – Meramec (JC) 12-3, then fell to Bethel (Tenn.) D1 10-3 on Friday night.  Lindenwood earned a 12-5 win over Kansas State (D2) and lost to Bethel (D4) 6-3 on Saturday.

Against the Archers, Matthew Galloni was named Star No. 1 with two goals and two assists, Austin Steger earned Star No. 2 honors with a hat trick, and Joseph Mula was named Star No. 3 with a goal and three assists.  Cameron Rodriguez Ken Gibson, Jake Abel, Jeremiah Keao, and Caleb Cooper also helped the score line.  The Lions outshot the Archers 40-18 and Tyler Kolly stopped 15 of the 18 pucks he faced to earn the victory in goal.

The Wildcats stifled Lindenwood in the second game on Friday, outshooting the Lions 40-22.  Rodriguez, Gibson, and Keao accounted for the only Lindenwood goals as Kolly stopped 30 of the 40 shots he faced in a losing effort. 

The Lions rebounded against the K-State Wildcats on Saturday.  It was a 3-2 contest after the first period and Kansas State tied it early in the second before Lindenwood rattled off eight straight goals to pull away.  Steger was named Star No. 1 with five goals and three assists, Anthony Willis earned Star No. 2 honors with two goals, and Jacob McGuire scored two as well to earn Star No. 3 honors.  Kolly stopped 13 of 18 in goal for the win.

The Bethel D4 squad also frustrated the Lions, even though Lindenwood outshot the Wildcats 31-22 in the contest.  Steger led the Lions offense with two goals while Galloni netted one.  Mula and Gibson earned the only two assists for Lindenwood.  Kolly stopped 17 of 22 for the loss in goal.

With the four-game split, the Gold squad stands at 4-3 on the season.  Lindenwood will travel to Huntington Beach, California for the Western Collegiate Roller Hockey League Inter-Regional November 17-18.  The Lions are currently scheduled to play Arizona State (D4) at 9 a.m., Florida Gulf Coast (D4) at 5 p.m., and Arizona (D4) at 11 p.m.  All games will take place at The Rinks.
