Roller Hockey Sweeps Three Games in Conference

Roller hockey swept all three games played in the Great Plains Collegiate Inline Hockey League (GPCIHL) January 26-27 at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin, Missouri and Matteson Square Garden in St. Peters, Missouri.

The first victory of the weekend came with a 4-2 final over conference nemesis Bethel University (Tenn.) Friday night.  Lindenwood opened up an early 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals from Jalen Krogman and Tyler Watson, both assisted by Max Romanowicz.  The advantage increased to 3-0 when Krogman set up Austin Steger for a shot just 24 seconds into the second.  The Wildcats netted a short-handed goal later in the period to make the score 3-1 heading to the third, but Lindenwood made it 4-1 when Nick DellaMorte scored on a play set up by Daniel Rosse at the 7:23 mark.  Bethel added a second goal a minute later, but that was as close as the Wildcats would get the rest of the game.

The Lions outshot Bethel 35 to 26 and Paul Town made 24 saves on 26 shots to earn the win in goal for Lindenwood.  Krogman, Town, and Romanowicz all received Star of the Game recognition.

The Lions followed on Saturday afternoon with a 9-2 victory over the University of Missouri.  Lindenwood sprinted to a 4-0 lead in the opening period with goals from Cody Page, Adam Swims, Steger, and Romanowicz.  That advantage ballooned to six with additional goals from Swims and Romanowicz in the second before the Tigers broke the shutout with a power play and even-strength score late in the period.  The Lions finished the game with another three goals in the final frame.  The first came from Steve Farina, followed by Page, and Rosse.

Lindenwood outshot Missouri 40 to 16 and Town stopped 14 of 16 shots to earn the win in goal.  Rosse was named Star #1 with a goal and three assists, Swims earned Star #2 honors with two goals and an assist, and Romanowicz was named Star #3 with two goals and an assist.

The final game of the weekend was a rematch against Bethel later on Saturday, and the Lions prevailed once again 3-2.  Lindenwood took the lead midway through the opening period on a shot from DellaMorte, assisted by Krogman.  The Wildcats tied the contest early in the second, but the Lions countered with a power play goal from Page, set up by Krogman.  DellaMorte gave Lindenwood some insurance when he hit the back of the cage early in the third off a feed from Krogman.  Bethel added a score late, but the Lions preserved the one-goal win.

In a relatively even affair, Lindenwood outshot the Wildcats 25 to 20.  Jacob Robinson stopped 18 of 20 between the pipes for the Lions.  DellaMorte was named Star #1 with two goals, Krogman received Star #2 honors with three assists, and Page earned Star #3 honors with an assist in the contest.

With the three wins, Lindenwood improved to 18-0-0 overall and 9-0-0 in the GPCIHL.

The weekend was full of milestones for the Lions.  The first major accomplishment was win number 1,000 in program history Friday night, encompassing all three squads, the Division I Lions, and the D3 Gold and Black teams.  The next accomplishment came on Saturday when the D1 squad eclipsed the 500-win mark.

???????Lindenwood will be able to add to those milestones later in the month when the team hosts the final regular season games in the GPCIHL and the Regional Championship February 23-25 at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin, Missouri.
