Men’s Basketball’s Second-Half Comeback Falls Short

Postgame Press Conference

The Lindenwood men's basketball team suffered a 67-64 loss against the Lincoln Blue Tigers in Hyland Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions and Blue Tigers traded baskets for much of the first half, with neither team establishing a significant lead. Adam Pohlman hit a layup at the 4:48 mark of the first half, sending Lindenwood ahead by a 22-21 count. Pohlman's layup sparked the Lions on a 10-0 run over the next 2:31, and the team took a controlling nine-point lead.

Lindenwood headed into halftime with a 34-28 edge.

The Blue Tigers came charging out to begin the second half, outscoring the Lions 20-5 over the first 7:34 of the frame. Lincoln used that run to build itself a nine-point advantage, and despite Lindenwood's comeback efforts, would hold the lead for the remainder of the game.

Lindenwood cut the Lincoln lead to just one point with 24 seconds remaining in the game, but that was as close as the Lions would get.

Following two successful Blue Tiger free throws with 1.9 seconds showing on the clock, the Lions found themselves down 67-64, and were set to inbound the ball from underneath their own hoop. A full-court length pass came up short, and Lindenwood was unable to register a shot before the buzzer sounded.

Brad Newman had a team-high 13 points for the Lions. Pohlman finished the afternoon with 12 points, while also dishing out a team-leading seven assists. Pohlman also tied with Chandler Diekvoss for the team-high with six rebounds.

The Lions shot 38.8 percent for the game (19-49), while the Blue Tigers hit on 43.1 percent of their attempts (25-58). Lindenwood out-rebounded Lincoln 34-32.

The loss drops Lindenwood to 14-10 on the season, and 6-9 inside the MIAA.

Lindenwood and Lincoln will conclude their home-and-home series on Tuesday evening from Jefferson City, Mo.
