Lindenwood women's lacrosse won a top-10 showdown on Saturday afternoon in Hunter Stadium. The No. 3 Lions defeated No. 7 Queens by a 13-4 margin.
Lindenwood and Queens have met in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments, which was the pregame story of the early season matchup. The Lions dominated possession throughout the game, and used a strong defensive effort to pick up a key regional victory. Lindenwood won 13-of-19 draw controls, and its pressure led Queens to 25 turnovers. Offensively, the Lions outshot Queens by a 48-10 margin, including a 26-10 edge in shots on goal.
Lindenwood took control of the game early, scoring the first goal less than four minutes into the game, and going on to score the first five goals of the contest. Five different players scored in that stretch, and seven had a point. The Lions would go on and lead 7-2 at halftime time, and then put the game away with three goals in the first four minutes of the second half.
Cassie Stucklen led Lindenwood's offense with three goals and two assists.
Sophie Buelow,
Carly Fedorowski,
Sami Smit, and
Hailey Gallant all scored twice, and
Hannah Doughty and
Allison Hurley had one goal apiece. Hurley added two assists, and Doughty, Gallant, and Fedorowski each had one assist.
Rachel Ortell made six saves in the goal, and she also had four caused turnovers and four groundballs. Fedorowski had a team-high five groundballs and caused three turnovers.
Shannon Modl had four groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers.
Maria Johnson led the team with seven draw controls.
Lindenwood moves to 2-0 on the season. The Lions are in action again next Friday at Concordia, St. Paul.
