Lindenwood's
Rachel Ortell became the winningest goalie in program history during the team's 19-7 victory at Concordia-St. Paul on Friday evening. Ortell registered her 43rd career victory at the Concordia Dome in St. Paul, Minn., surpassing the previous mark set by Christine Hehmeyer during the 2014 season.
Concordia-St. Paul opened the game's scoring after just 91 seconds to take an early one-goal lead.
Lindenwood answered quickly, as Minnesota native,
Carly Fedorowski found the back of the net just 37 seconds after the Concordia goal.
Fedorowski's goal sparked a stretch of six-unanswered goals for the Lions, as the team built a 6-1 lead with just under 18 minutes remaining in the first half.
Allison Hurley,
Sarah Cromer,
Hannah Doughty, and
Sophie Buelow would all score during that stretch for Lindenwood. The Lions would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the evening.
Concordia-St. Paul scored the next two goals, cutting the Lindenwood edge to 6-3.
The Lions closed out the first half by scoring seven of the final eight goals, and carried a 13-4 lead into halftime.
Lindenwood outscored the home team by a 6-3 margin during the second half, bringing the game to its final score of 19-7.
Ortell finished the game with three saves, and moved her record to 3-0 on the season.
Aly Smith relived Ortell for the final 19 minutes of the game, stopping two of the four shots she faced.
Lindenwood had three players tie for the team lead with seven points apiece. Buelow, Doughty, and Hurley all accomplished the feat for the Lions. For Buelow and Doughty, the seven-point performances set new career-high marks, while Hurley fell one point short of her career-best.
Fedorowski and Cromer each recorded hat-tricks for Lindenwood, while
Maria Johnson also had two goals.
Fedorowski and Johnson each paced the team with six draw controls, while Buelow led the way with five ground balls.
Following the non-conference victory, Lindenwood improves to 3-0 to begin the 2018 campaign. The Lions will return to action on Sunday afternoon against the Tiffin Dragons. The opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m. from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
