Britannia Gillanders scored her team-leading third game-winning goal of the season and
Jolene deBruyn posted her second-consecutive shutout as the women's hockey team defeated Penn State 1-0 on Friday afternoon. The Lions took down the Nittany Lions at Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pa.
Gillanders netted her sixth goal of the season at the 10:50 mark of the first period, sending Lindenwood in front by a 1-0 score. Gillanders' goal was assisted by
Carla Goodwin, and would stand up for the remainder of the game as the deciding score.
deBruyn finished the game with 43 saves in goal for the Lions, including 20 stops during the final period to protect the one-goal lead. deBruyn registered her third shutout of the season, and her second in as many starts in the process. For deBruyn, it was her sixth game this season with at least 40 saves.
Megan Wagner led the Lions with eight faceoff wins, while
Cierra Paisley and
Lillian Marchant each had five wins in the faceoff circle.
Lindenwood was scoreless on each of its two power-play attempts, and held Penn State scoreless on its three chances.
With the win, Lindenwood improves to 10-18-1 and 8-11-0 from within the CHA. The Lions will conclude their regular season schedule tomorrow afternoon against Penn State. Puck drop from Pegula Ice Arena is set for 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT.
