Baseball Wins Two On Sunday

The Lindenwood baseball earned a series win over Northwest Missouri State after sweeping the Bearcats in a doubleheader on Sunday by scores of 9-7 and 7-2 at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
 
Game One Overview: Lindenwood 9, Northwest Missouri 7
The Lions tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first after an RBI single by DJ Miller.  Lindenwood poured on the runs in the second inning which began with a double to right center by Vince Saladino to bring in Dominic Revetta.  Miller drove the ball back to the wall, but a fielding error by the left fielder allowed all three runners to score on the play.  Drew Quinones drove in Miller on a single up the middle to put the Lions in front 6-1.
 
The Bearcats chipped away at the lead and pulled within two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Lions responded.  Paul Sherwood hit a two-RBI single down the left field line and later scored on a single by Tyler Muehling to make it 9-4.  Lindenwood surrendered three runs, but build a lead strong enough to hold on for the 9-7 victory.

Game Two Overview: Lindenwood 7, Northwest Missouri 2
Lindenwood again scored early in game two that saw three runs scored in the first inning including an RBI double by Neil Fischer.  The Lions picked up two more runs in the second including the second run scored of the game for Wes Degener.  DJ Miller hits a double to left center in the fourth inning to bring in Degener for the third time.  Drew Quinones brought in Miller with a double to right field and a 7-0 lead.
 
Tyler Cassmeyer put the Lions in great position after tossing six innings with four strikeouts and no earned runs allowed.  Marshall Shill was outstanding in his three innings pitched as he tallied two strikeouts and just two hits allowed to earn his first save of the season.

Up Next
Lindenwood improves to 12-11 on the year and 5-7 in the MIAA while the Bearcats drop to 12-11 on the season and 8-4 in the conference.  The Lions will remain at home on Tuesday to take on No. 5 Central Missouri at 6 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
