Baseball Tallies 13 Hits in 9-5 Loss to No. 5 Central Missouri

The Lindenwood baseball team lost 9-4 to No. 5 Central Missouri on Tuesday night at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
 
Game Overview: No. 5 Central Missouri 9, Lindenwood 4
The Mules scored a run in the top of the third on a throwing error by the Lions to take the early lead.  Central Missouri added two more runs in the top of the third to increase its advantage to 3-0.  Vince Saladino put the Lions on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single up the middle to bring in Neil Fischer.  The Mules extended their lead in the next inning with four runs on five hits and left three runners stranded.
 
Lindenwood plated two runs in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single by Drew Quinones and another by Dominic Revetta.  The Lions could not stay within four runs as the Mules added two in the top of the eighth.  Ian Nelson pulled the Lions within 9-4 after an RBI single and Wes Degener drove a 3-2 pitch to the wall, but it was caught by the right fielder to leave all three runners stranded in the bottom of the eighth inning.  The Lions added a run in the bottom of the ninth with a double by Fischer, but it was too little too late in the 9-5 loss.

Lindenwood falls to 12-12 on the season and 5-8 in the MIAA while No. 5 Central Missouri improves to 20-4 on the year and 11-2 in conference play.  The Lions will be back in action on Friday against Nebraska-Kearney to kick-off a three-game set in Kearney, Neb. starting at 6 p.m.
