The Lindenwood men's tennis team posted a 5-3 win over Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon from the Lindenwood Tennis Courts in St. Charles, Mo. Lindenwood's victory comes just one season after it was defeated 8-1 by the Screaming Eagles.
Jonas Bergbom and
Naoufal El Idrissi paired up for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, giving Lindenwood its first point of the afternoon. Southern Indiana posted wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 edge into singles play.
The Lions secured wins in four of the five singles matches that were completed, and cruised to the non-conference dual win. El Idrissi won his match at No. 1 singles in straight sets, while
Michele Gaspari did the same out of the No. 3 matchup.
Antoine Barraud and
Guillaume Teste provided wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
"We played as a team and won as a team," said Lindenwood head coach
Nicolai Nonnenbroich. "That's the way we're going to be successful. After going down 1-2 in doubles, we pulled together and created a wave of fight and encouragement across all courts that never stopped. That's how college tennis should be."
With its win, Lindenwood improves to 6-6 on the season. Lindenwood will return to the courts on Saturday afternoon in Maryville, Mo. for a dual against Northwest Missouri State. The match is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
