No. 5 Jacquez won his first match by a 15-6 major decision over Austin Neal of Newberry in the 125-pound weight class. The sophomore took on defending National Champion Ivan McClay from Notre Dame (Ohio) in the quarterfinals. No. 2 McClay held a 3-2 lead, but a late takedown by Jacquez created a roar in the arena as Jacquez held on for the 4-3 victory. The Aurora, Ill. native has advanced to the semifinal match on Saturday and is guaranteed to be named All-American after winning his first two matches.
No. 8
Jake Borgmeyer lost his first match to No. 11 Matt Halverson of Wisconsin-Parkside. Borgmeyer faced conference-foe No. 3 Jared Hinrichs in hopes of staying alive, but a stalling call late in the match was the deciding point in the 285-pound weight division.
