A last minute comeback attempt for the Lindenwood men's lacrosse team fell short as it fell to Westminster on Saturday by a 9-8 score in Kansas City, Mo.
The two teams were tied at seven early in the fourth quarter, but the Griffins scored twice in less than a two-minute span to take a 9-7 lead. Lindenwood got one goal back with 1:17 left, and a Westminster turnover gave the Lions a chance to tie the game in the final 43 seconds. Three shots in the final 12 seconds were off the mark though, and the Lions lost by one.
Lindenwood outshot Westminster by a 40-32 margin, including a 19-17 mark on shots on goal. The Griffins made three more saves though. Westminster also had six more groundballs, including a 16-10 margin in the first half when the Griffins grabbed a 5-3 lead.
Sam Heaton led the Lindenwood offense with three goals and one assist, and
Colin Domek had two goals and one assist.
Danny Kowalski had two caused turnovers, and
Max Troha had a team-high five groundballs
Connor Ciemiewicz made eight saves in goal.
Lindenwood falls to 5-6 on the season. The Lions will have its final home game of the season next Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest against Maryville.
