No. 1 Women’s Lacrosse Surges Past No. 7 LIU Post

The No. 1 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team picked up its 16th consecutive win on Wednesday afternoon with a 14-10 victory over No. 7 LIU Post from Brookville, N.Y. The Lions kept the Pioneers scoreless for the final 19:20 of play, while outscoring the home team by a 6-0 margin to pick up the impressive four-goal road win.
 
Lindenwood fell behind early, as LIU Post scored the first two goals of the afternoon to take a 2-0 lead after just seven minutes. The Lions responded by scoring four of the next five goals to grab itself a 4-3 advantage with just under 16 minutes remaining in the half. The teams continued to exchange goals for the remainder of the half, which ended with LIU Post carrying a 7-6 lead into halftime.
 
The Lions were outscored by a 3-2 margin over the first 10:40 of the second half, and trailed the Pioneers by two goals. Over the final 19:20, Lindenwood accounted for all six of the remaining scores while blanking LIU Post, and securing a 14-10 win.
 
Lindenwood's Sophie Buelow netted four of the crucial final six goals, while Long Island native, Cassie Stucklen had the other two scores down the stretch for the Lions. Buelow concluded the afternoon with a game-high five goals, while Stucklen tallied a hat trick in her homecoming game.
 
Maria Johnson had a season-high four-goal performance, and finished with five points to match a season-best mark. Allison Hurley had two goals and one assist for the Lions.
 
Rachel Ortell registered her 16th win of the season in goal for Lindenwood. Ortell finished the game with six saves, including four during the first half.
 
Shannon Modl led the Lions in draw controls with four, while Alana Jeronimo and Ortell each paced the team with two caused turnovers apiece. Jeronimo also collected four ground balls to lead Lindenwood.
 
With its win, Lindenwood improves to 16-0 this season. The Lions will conclude their regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon at Oklahoma Baptist. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. from Shawnee, Okla. With a victory, the Lions will clinch their seventh straight conference title.
