Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Southwest Baptist on Thursday

The Lindenwood baseball team split its doubleheader with Southwest Baptist on Thursday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.  The Lions took game one 10-5, but fell 3-2 in the nightcap.
 
Game One Overview: Lindenwood 10, Southwest Baptist 5
Blake Beckmann earned his first win of the year after tossing seven strong innings with four strikeouts and just one earned run.  Drew Quinones opened the scoring with a double down the right field line to bring in Wes DegenerDJ Miller scored on a balk and Quinones later scored to make it a quick 3-0 ballgame.  The Bearcats registered a run in the top of the fourth, but the Lions responded with a big fifth inning.
 
Lindenwood scored two runs on back-to-back bases-loaded walks and Dominic Revetta tallied a two-RBI single through the left side.  Tyler Muehling and DJ Miller hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Lions a 10-1 lead after five innings.  Southwest Baptist scored four runs in the ninth, but the lead was secure for the 10-5 victory in game one.

Game Two Overview: Southwest Baptist 3, Lindenwood 2
The Lions pressed all game, but struggled to produce runs as Lindenwood stranded 12 runners in game two.  Southwest Baptist drove in two runs in the third and one in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.  Ian Nelson sparked the offense in the eighth inning as he rung the right field foul pole for the solo home run.  Wes Degener was down 0-2 in the count, but poked a single up the middle to score Dominic Revetta.  The Lions could not find the tying run and fell 3-2 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Up Next
Lindenwood moves to 15-18 on the year and 8-14 in the MIAA while the Bearcats stand at 13-21 on the season and 7-14 in conference play.  The three-game series will come to an end on Friday as the Lions and Bearcats will play at 12 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
