Men's Lacrosse Falls In Top-20 Battle On Friday Night

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team dropped a top-20 battle on Friday night at Hunter Stadium against Rockhurst. The No. 20 Hawks defeated the No. 19 Lions by a 16-11 margin.
 
Special teams was the difference in the game as the Hawks scored six man-up goals, and also scored a man-down goal. Lindenwood had just one extra-man goal in the game which saw the two teams combine for 16 penalties and 18:30 minutes of penalty time.
 
Four of Rockhurst's man-up goals came in the first 19 minutes as Rockhurst grabbed an early 8-2 advantage. Lindenwood had its best stretch of play to close out the first half, and it pulled within 8-6 at halftime after four straight goals.
 
Rockhurst allowed just one goal in the third quarter, and it started to pull away at 11-7. The Lions got within three twice in the final 15 minutes, but the Hawks sealed the game with a pair of goals in the final two minutes.
 
The Hawks had four more shots in the game, and had a 26-20 edge in shots on goal. Rockhurst also had 14 more groundballs, and won 25-of-30 faceoffs. Lindenwood did force 21 turnovers in the game, and turned it over just 13 times, including three in the final half.
 
Sam Heaton led the Lions with five points on four goals and one assist. Leonard Jones also had a hat trick with three goals. Robbie McCarthy scored twice, and Sean Darroch had one goal and a team-high two assists.
 
Gabe Monteleone had a team-high five groundballs, and Jake Moran and Max Hood each had three caused turnovers. Connor Ciemiewicz made 10 saves in goal.
 
The game was also Senior Night at Hunter Stadium, as the Lions honored their 10 seniors prior to the game.
 
Lindenwood falls to 5-4 on the season. The Lions are in action again on Tuesday with a road contest at Indianapolis.
