The Lindenwood men's and women's tennis teams each suffered losses in their respective dual matches on Friday afternoon in Grand Island, Neb. The men's team dropped their match by a final score of 7-2, while the women's team was defeated by a count of 6-3.
For the men's team,
Jonas Bergbom and
Naoufal El Idrissi were responsible for both of Lindenwood's wins during the match. Bergbom won his match in three sets at No. 1 singles, while El Idrissi secured the victory at No. 2 singles for the Lions.
On the women's side,
Haya Hamed posted a three-set win at No. 2 singles. Also winning matches for the Lions were
Tereza Melicharkova and
Laura Castro Milan. Melicharkova won at No. 4 singles, while Castro Milan was victorious at No. 6 singles.
"We came up short against a better team," said Lindenwood tennis head coach
Nicolai Nonnenbroich. There were some individual highlights that I was really proud of. Naoufal really showed what mental toughness looks like. He trusted the game plan and was receptive to adapting that plan when it was needed. This weekend will be long and grueling, but I see it as an opportunity to grow as a united team."
The women's team will return to action tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. for a match against Fort Hays State. The men's team will also play tomorrow, as they take on Northwest Missouri State at 6:00 p.m.
