The No. 1 Lindenwood women's lacrosse team posted an 18-8 victory over the Fort Lewis Skyhawks in its RMAC Tournament semifinal game on Friday afternoon from Denver, Colo. Lindenwood received goals from 11 different players en route to its 18th consecutive win.
Lindenwood broke a scoreless tie just 71 seconds into the game, as
Carly Fedorowski found the back of the net off a free position shot to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Fort Lewis responded with three straight goals, and held Lindenwood scoreless over the next 12:22 to take a 3-1 lead with 16:27 remaining in the first half.
Lindenwood answered the Fort Lewis scoring-run by registering 10 of the next 11 goals to close out the first half. The Lions carried an 11-4 lead into the halftime intermission.
Lindenwood continued its scoring outburst during the second half, outscoring Fort Lewis 7-2 over the opening 23:40, to extend its lead to 17-6.
Fort Lewis would add two goals over the final 3:31 to move the final score to 18-8.
Rachel Ortell started the game in goal for Lindenwood, stopping six of the 10 shots she faced. Ortell recorded her 18th win of the season.
Aly Smith relieved Ortell at the beginning of the second half, and made three saves.
Hailey Gallant led all Lindenwood scorers with three goals. Additionally, the Lions also received multi-goal performances from
Hannah Doughty,
Ellie Faulk,
Garland Fiser,
Cassie Stucklen and Fedorowski, who each had two goals.
Sophie Buelow,
Maria Johnson, and
Gracie Pine each had one goal and one assist in the game.
Faulk,
Shannon Modl, and
Morgan Reader each secured a team-high three draw controls.
With its win, Lindenwood improves to 18-0 on the season. The Lions will await the winner of the second RMAC semifinal contest being played later this afternoon, to determine their opponent in Sunday's RMAC Championship Game. The opening draw on Sunday is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. MT/1:00 p.m. CT from Denver, Colo.
