Football Drops High-Scoring Contest to Central Oklahoma

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood football team was defeated 52-42 by the Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Saturday evening from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. The loss moves the Lions record to 1-2 on the season, while the Bronchos improve to 1-2.

Lindenwood put together an eight play, 77-yard drive on its opening possession, capping the sequence with a 28-yard touchdown strike from Cade Brister to Payton Rose.

Following a Central Oklahoma field goal, the Lions extended their lead to a 14-3 margin with just under three minutes remaining in the first quarter, as Nash Sutherlin found the endzone on a two-yard touchdown run.

The Bronchos scored the game's next three touchdowns, and built a 24-14 lead with 1:38 remaining in the opening half.

On the ensuing kickoff following the third Central Oklahoma touchdown, Lindenwood's Cameron Sanders broke loose down the right sideline, eluded a series of Broncho defenders, before taking the ball 92 yards for a touchdown. Sanders' kickoff return touchdown was the first for the Lions since Oct. 7, 2017.

The Lions used some trickery to take the lead midway through the third quarter, as Brister threw a lateral to wide receiver Najee Jackson, who delivered a 28-yard strike to Jarrett Johnson for a touchdown. Johnson's score gave Lindenwood a 28-24 lead.

The Bronchos immediately moved back in front with a touchdown of their own just 51 seconds after the Lions' score.

Lindenwood entered the fourth quarter trailing by a score of 31-28. The Lions embarked on a 79-yard scoring drive to open the final quarter, which was capped off with a 22-yard touchdown run by Brister. Brister's run gave the Lions a 35-31 lead with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game.

Central Oklahoma scored the next three touchdowns, taking a commanding 52-35 lead with 97 seconds remaining in the game.

Brister connected with Jackson for a 26 yard touchdown pass as time expired to bring the game to its final score of 52-42.
