Women's Hockey Struggles on Power Play in 2-0 Loss

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-16-2, 1-9-1 CHA) dropped its weekend series opener to Mercyhurst (10-10-3, 7-3-0 CHA) by a 2-0 margin on Friday afternoon in Erie, Pa.  The Lions outshot the Lakers 52-39 including 24-16 on goal, but failed to convert on any of their eight power plays.

The first period saw two teams that were nearly identical in every phase of the game, as the first intermission was taken with a 0-0 tie.  Lindenwood won the faceoff dot, and poured on 24 shots to just 11 for Mercyhurst, but the Lakers blanked the Lions on the man advantage.  Mercyhurst had just three shots on goal in the second frame, but scored at the 13:22 mark to take a 1-0 lead.

Lindenwood again had quality chances in the third period, but could not find the answer on the power play.  The Lakers found another goal late in the third period to make it a 2-0 game.  The Lions pressed late in hopes of a comeback, but Mercyhurst held on for the two-goal victory.
